Dunedin deserves a book like this. No one who knows this Otago city will dispute that it has a distinctive charm, character and beauty that set it apart from other provincial centres. The character of Dunedin comes from the dramatic hill and harbour setting, the buildings, the sense of history and - most important - the friendly people.

How to convey the spirit of Dunedin in a book?

Shona McFarlane, we feel has carried it off to perfection. A resident Dunedin artist of note, she has gone about with easel and sketchbook and portrayed the city as seen through the eyes of one who loves all its vistas and seascapes, its lofty spires and imposing facades, its quaint corners and Victorian remnants.

Tanning - age tanning or browning/yellowing occurs over time on the pages of books,  tanning tends to start on the outside of the pages and progresses inward over time, often creating a brownish or yellowish border around the page edges.
Foxed / Foxing - age-related brown or brown-yellowish spotting of the paper caused by a chemical reaction over time.
Sunned - damage done to a book cover or dust jacket caused by exposure to direct sunlight.
Closed Tear - indicates a torn page in which no material has been lost. A closed tear can be pressed back into place or sometimes fixed with archival repair tape.
