The English Rose by David Austin

Since David Austin launched his English Roses almost thirty years ago they have become popular the world over. Combining the form and scent of Old Roses with the colour range and repeat-flowering of the best modern varieties, they are the most beautiful roses both for the garden and flower arrangement.

This beautifully designed book presents seventy of the very best English Roses, including eight new hybrids never previously featured in a book. Superb plant portraits show off the exquisite charm of the blooms, while the informative text details the special qualities of each variety - its colour and form, its fragrance and habit. There is also advice on how to use the roses to best effect in the garden.

A concise introduction tells the fascinating story behind the creation of the English Rose, and special feature spreads show displays of English Roses in the garden and in cut flower arrangements, accompanied by lyrical quotations that capture the essence of the
rose. Finally, a list of English Rose suppliers makes this the perfect book for all rose- lovers.

    Book Terminology

Tanning - age tanning or browning/yellowing occurs over time on the pages of books,  tanning tends to start on the outside of the pages and progresses inward over time, often creating a brownish or yellowish border around the page edges.
Foxed / Foxing - age-related brown or brown-yellowish spotting of the paper caused by a chemical reaction over time.
Sunned - damage done to a book cover or dust jacket caused by exposure to direct sunlight.
Closed Tear - indicates a torn page in which no material has been lost. A closed tear can be pressed back into place or sometimes fixed with archival repair tape.
