Total Golf Techniques by Jack Nicklaus with Ken Bowden, illustrated by Jim McQueen

Prior to launching the series, a major effort was made to develop a format that would do full justice to Nicklaus' talent and knowledge of golf technique--and, notably, a format which would meet his and the magazine's joint requirement for maximum clarity, simplicity and directness in communicating that knowledge. The result was the leanest, stick-to-the-point Nicklaus prose, dramatized by full-colour "cartoon-style" drawings. Rendered by one of golf's foremost illustrators, Jim McQueen, the series was
structured so that each article would offer a colourful, comprehensive, but entirely self-contained "lesson." The verbal incisiveness and pictorial excitement of this highly innovative approach proved to have immediate and continuing appeal for golfers all over the world.

The Total Golf book represents the complete "Lesson Tee" series, plus a number of new, full-page illustrations. These were especially created to add further dimension and dramatization to what Nicklaus regards as root fundamentals of good golf technique. Arranged into groups, for easy study and reference, the expanded series covers the spectrum of Nicklaus' swing and playing techniques.

Of particular value is Nicklaus' insistence on explaining exactly why a golfer should do a certain thing, as well as how he should do it. In his introduction Jack writes: "Virtually from the time I started playing golf I have studied the 'why' as well as the 'how' of technique. It has never been enough for me simply to hit good shots. I've always wanted to know precisely what caused the good shots, just as much as I've wanted to know what caused the bad shots.
